Spotlight on Cóbano: Promoting Film Production in Costa Rica’s Natural Paradise
CATUCZA and ADI ST ML collaborate to promote the district of Cóbano as a destination for film production. On September 13th, our District of Cóbano was visited by six audiovisual entrepreneurs during a Familiarization Tour (FAM Tour), as part of the 6th edition of the Central American and Caribbean Audiovisual Market (MAUCC), during the Buyers Trade Mission (BTM) organized by PROCOMER. In Cóbano, we were joined by Julio Augusto Almada and Penelope Reynoso from Otto Films in Ecuador, Melinda Santiago from The Santiago Firm, USA, Luiz López from Guaraci Ventures, USA, and Dimenegi Gino and Gaganpreet Singh from Film Masters LLC, Dubai.
FAM Tours are journeys that allow these film entrepreneurs to fall in love with the natural beauties of our country and choose Costa Rica as the location for filming their next audiovisual projects, thus encouraging investment and economic activation. Costa Rica has a new law to attract film investments (Law 10071).
According to PROCOMER data, last year more than 100 international audiovisual projects entered the country, generating an investment of almost US$7 million in lodging, transport, food, local hiring, and other expenses, with 95% of international productions in Costa Rica carried out outside the GAM in search of natural beauties such as beaches, mountains, and volcanoes.
The visit included a boat tour of the Peninsula, as well as visits to the towns of Montezuma, Malpaís, Santa Teresa, and Manzanillo, where they could engage in various activities and enjoy the local cuisine. During the visit, members of CATUCZA, ADI ST ML, and the local government accompanied the group.
On behalf of CATUCZA, we want to thank our affiliates who were an important part of providing a unique experience for these film entrepreneurs:
Restaurante El Carmen, Somos, Trópico Latino, Nantipa, Manzú, SunTrails, MarAMar, Arío Tours, as well as Naviera Tambor, Blue Line company, and El Artesano restaurant, and the photography team who also collaborated during the visit.
