On Saturday, August 24, Mr. Erick Lacayo, Deputy Minister of Security, addressed the community to discuss security issues in the district. The meeting was attended by Intendant Ronny Montero, ADI MP ST, CATUCZA, members of the Public Force and Tourist Police, a representative from the Presidential House for Puntarenas, representatives from the private sector, and organizations from the communities of Mal País, Santa Teresa, Playa Hermosa, and Manzanillo.

We share a summary of the projects and their progress announced during the meeting:

  • Camera Project: The Ministry of Security and CATUCZA are about to sign an agreement for the monitoring of a camera system in the area. Additionally, ADI ST MP and CATUCZA will coordinate with the Ministry of Security to provide training to business owners and security personnel on monitoring and using recorded material for police purposes.

  • New Santa Teresa Delegation: It is anticipated that in the coming days, the company responsible for constructing the new delegation will be awarded the contract, with construction expected to begin around September 16. With the support of CATUCZA, a house has been rented to serve as a provisional delegation, and community, business, and entrepreneur support will be needed to cover the rental costs.

  • Lighting Project: The first phase of the project, which involves illuminating 8 of the 12 beach access points, will begin in early September. ICE has contributed to the project, and the Fundación Península de Nicoya has donated materials.

  • “Adopt a Patrol” Agreement for Equipment Enhancement: The Santa Teresa police delegation will receive 1 pickup truck, 2 ATVs, and 2 motorcycles, thanks to an agreement soon to be signed between the Ministry of Security and ADI MP ST.

  • Police Operations: A strategy for inter-institutional operations is being developed to control clandestine parties and other types of infractions and crimes.

  • Police Reinforcement: There has been an increase in police personnel, and starting in October, the tourist police offices will operate 24 hours a day.

  • Construction of Street Segment from Playa Carmen to KATANA: Intendant Ronny Montero reports that construction of this street segment will begin in October.

A united community makes a difference; safety is everyone’s responsibility!
